The 16th District-wide Food Drive is April 6-10, with schools, their business partners and district departments participating. Families are invited to donate non-perishable food items, essential household goods or cash donations at participating school sites throughout the week. All donations support VEAP, the Bloomington-based organization that operates the metro area’s largest food and household goods pantry.
Food assistance and everyday essentials are ongoing realities for many Bloomington families. Our community always steps up as the need continues. This year’s drive will focus on:
Non-perishable food items, especially common Latino and Somali foods
Baby items (diapers, wipes)
Personal care products
Household essentials
The campaign has collected the equivalent of more than 625,000 pounds since it began. This year’s goal is to collect the equivalent of 40,000 pounds of food. The District-wide Food Drive is coordinated with the assistance of the Bloomington Parent & Family Advocacy Council.
At Olson Elementary, we believe every family belongs and every child deserves to feel safe. Our community is built on dignity, compassion, and care for one another. Right now, increased federal immigration presence is creating fear and stress for many families. This can feel isolating. We want you to know that support is here, and you are not alone.
If you or someone you know needs support, please reach out to the White Tiger Family Network, a group of Olson parents committed to mutual aid.
